Sometimes, a room isn’t wrong… it just doesn’t feel complete.
That’s exactly how my daughter’s room felt.
It’s not a big room — in fact, it’s quite compact.
It had all the essentials, but it didn’t feel warm, cozy, or truly hers. And more than anything, I wanted to create a space where she could relax, unwind, and feel comfortable… without making the room feel crowded.
I wasn’t looking for a big makeover.
No major changes. No unnecessary spending.
Just simple, thoughtful styling.
And slowly, with small shifts and layers, the room transformed into a space that feels calm, functional, and full of warmth 🤍
Understanding the Space (Before)
Everything was in place — but nothing really stood out.
- The layout worked, but felt a little tight
- Some corners were underused
- The walls looked slightly empty
- The overall space felt flat
It wasn’t about fixing something broken…
it was about making the space feel more intentional.
My Approach: Making a Small Room Feel Better (Not Bigger)
Since the room is small, my focus wasn’t to add more —
it was to make smarter use of what was already there.
I kept coming back to a few simple ideas:
- Keep the layout open and breathable
- Use soft textures to add warmth
- Style in layers, not in excess
- Add personal touches that matter
The goal was simple —
create comfort without clutter.
The Daybed: A Practical Choice for a Small Room
Since the space is compact, adding a full traditional bed would have taken up unnecessary space and made the room feel even tighter.
That’s why we chose the IKEA daybed.
It works beautifully in a small room because:
- it functions as a sofa during the day
- it opens up into a full bed when needed
So instead of the room feeling like it’s dominated by a bed, it feels like a usable, relaxed space.
With a few cushions added for back support, it easily transforms into a cozy seating area — perfect for reading, relaxing, or just spending time.
The Cozy Window Corner (Our Favorite Spot)
This little seating area under the window slowly became the heart of the room.
It started off quite simple — just a basic setup without much styling.
But one small change made a big difference.
I used a white plush throw from TEMU that had been lying unused in the cupboard — and just placing it on the seating instantly made the space feel softer and more inviting 🤍
From there, I started experimenting with cushion arrangements:
- soft pink textures
- calm neutrals
- a mix of patterns and solids
And each time, the same corner felt slightly different — warmer, calmer, or more playful.
Without changing anything major, this became the coziest spot in the room
The Power of Textiles: Small Changes That Changed Everything
If there’s one thing that made the biggest impact in this room, it was this — textiles.
Cushions and throws added softness, warmth, depth
Instead of buying new decor, I simply rotated cushion covers arrangements and tried different textures.
And every time, the space felt refreshed.
Tip: You don’t need more things — you just need versatile ones.
Styling the Walls: Adding Personality Without Clutter
In a small room, walls play a big role.
Instead of filling the space with bulky decor, I kept it light and functional.
I used:
- an IKEA picture ledge to fill the empty wall space
- floating shelves for both storage and display
The shelves are now used by my daughter to keep:
- her books
- little collectiblesher perfume collection
And that’s what made the biggest difference —
it made the room feel personal.
Small Furniture That Added Function
We also added a custom-made long side table.
Because the room is small, it was important that any additional furniture didn’t feel bulky and served a clear purpose.
This table became the perfect spot for:
- a table lamp
- small everyday items It added functionality without taking away from the openness of the room
Common Lighting Mistakes to Avoid
- Using only overhead lighting
- Choosing very cool white bulbs
- Keeping everything at the same height
- Over-lighting every corner
Sometimes, less light—but better placed—works more beautifully.
Bringing It All Together
At the end, nothing dramatic had changed.
The room is still small.
The layout is still simple.
But the way it feels is completely different.
It now feels:
- cozy
- calm
- functional
- and truly lived-in
This room reminded me of something simple:
⦁ Small spaces don’t need more things — they need better choices
- Comfort doesn’t come from expensive pieces
- Styling can completely change how a space feels
- And the most important thing — a room should feel like the person who lives in it
This isn’t a perfect room.
But it’s comfortable.
It’s warm.
And most importantly — it feels like hers.
And sometimes, that’s all a home really needs
